Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Hyundai Sonata

Hi, John with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the CURT Class 1 receiver hitch on our 2019 Hyundai Sonata. So first impressions of the CURT hitch. Yeah, it's tucked back in here. This is a Class 1 receiver and it is hardly visible when it's on the car. Now no matter which brand you go with, Draw-tite has one as well that has a different safety chain loop on it and it's a little bit different appearance but they're both rated the same. more

Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2016 Hyundai Sonata, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. Many of our Sonata customers, whenever they put the hitch on, they plan on using it for accessories, like a bike rack, and even sometimes a cargo carrier. This is going to be great for that. It's going to free up some space on the inside of your car and eliminate the need to deal with any roof mounted accessories, which sometimes can be a little cumbersome and annoying to have to put on the roof. With the hitch, you're just going to be able to put your accessory back here where it's easy to get to. more

Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today you're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to walk you through the installation on the Draw-Tite class I trailer hitch receiver on your 2011 Hyundai Sonata.Adding a hitch to your vehicle is going to make your vehicle a lot more versatile. It's going to allow you to move cargo from inside the vehicle to the outside. Maybe you're putting on a cargo carrier or maybe a bike rack and you don't want to carry your bikes inside to make more room for your passengers. Another benefit to adding a hitch to your vehicle is when you're loading your cargo carrier or loading your bikes onto the bike rack, if it's on the hitch you're not going to have to have lift it as high. If you had it on a roof rack, that's a lot higher and you're going to have to lift those items to get them either in your cargo carrier or to put your bikes up on the rack. One thing to keep in mind is with this being a class I hitch you're going to be limited to up to a two-bike bike rack, which brings me to the weight capacities. more

Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Speaker 1: Today on this 2018 Hyundai Sonata we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C11402. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. One thing that's nice about this hitch is that it is tucked up nice and tight against our fascia and doesn't stick out past it, so when we're loading cargo into our trunk we don't have to worry about running our shin into it.On the side of our receiver you'll find our industry standard 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin hole to secure your hitch mounted accessories with a pin and clip. We have those available separately on our website. Welded on the bottom is our plate-style safety chain loop area. What's nice about these is that they do have a decent size opening so even if you have a somewhat large hook in your trailer, if you plan on towing a trailer with your Sonata you'll still easily be able to hook up the chain to it.On the end of our receiver we have this collar that's welded on. more

It's going to have a plate style safety chain connection point. The CURT is going to have the collar around the receiver tube, and it's just going to add to a nice, clean, finished look, whereas the Draw Tite's going to have more of clean flush cut to it.Now, CURT does recommend using a safety strap when carrying any non-trailer loads such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. As far as installation goes, both of our hitches are going to install very similarly using very similar hardware. We are going to have to enlarge one hole in each side of our frame in order to get it in place, but it's going to use two factory holes to bolt up.Now, you'll notice that the Draw Tite's going to have this small tab here on the side. more

The first thing that we need to do to start off is we need to remove this panel right here. What is going to happen is the arm of the hitch is going to go right through this part of this right here. So we are just going to take it down and leave it off. It really does not serve much of a purpose and the hitch will be in the way anyways. It looks like there are two fasteners hiding back here too, one here and here. You can see that this is where, if the vehicle had dual exhaust, it would be in this spot here. So that is what that panel did, basically enclosed that area. 0:38 more

We also just added a strap to keep the exhaust from coming down too far, and if we have to we can actually lower this a little easier with the strap. Also, we sprayed down the rubber hangers with some WD-40 to help loosen them up a little bit. On the last one here we are just going to take out this bolt here. What you want to do is spray this down pretty good with WD-40 and let it soak a little bit, because these bolts that sit out underneath the vehicle are prone to freezing up. more
